Missing survivor in defense

I have a Recon survivor assigned to a watchtower, but whenever there's a horde, he doesn't load at all. The watch tower is empty and my recon unit is nowhere to be found. He's not on a mission or anything. I have no idea what's going on.

perhaps re assigned the recon then open survivor tabs change their weapon / gear perhaps he will stay on the place you assign him ?
